Telluride Film

Telluride Film is a premier film festival known for creating an outstanding experience for its guests — film lovers from around the world. This experience includes a tightly curated list of films, shown in a great location, by passionate staff, with well-written insights and materials and a dedication to quality.

In 2008 the festival directors approached me to explore a mobile solution to augment the existing printed program that enables attendees to navigate the what, when and where of festival films. A long-time attendee, I had internalized many of the issues myself, and a time- and location-based mobile solution made complete sense.

PROCESS

  1. Identify use cases

  2. Prototype screen flows

  3. Tighten screen design, begin a design system

  4. Start coding the front-end

  5. Stand up a CMS

  6. Test with dummy data

CHALLENGES

  1. My rusty HTML/CSS/JS skills

  2. My non-existent database skills

ABSOLUTE LUCK

  1. Aligning with a dev partner who could stand up the databases, link them to the front end and write native Android, iOS and Web code for the mobile clients.
